But the truth is - she really is the best at being a friend.
I don't deny that I have other amazing friends, or that I call them my best friends too. They deserve the credit for being absolutely fantastic in the Friend department.
But I think in this instance, one will always be just 2 steps ahead of the game.
A little background:
We've known each other since we were 11 and we've never had an argument. We've had to deal with the ugly stages of secondary school (She outgrew hers waaaaay before I did), the many days crying in the toilet (over stuff even I can't remember & I have an amazing memory!), always having a P.E partner (which usually involved hiding from the teacher behind a giant hedgerow) and the crush on the same guy (at different times which makes it sooo much better and twice as funny.)
She's pretty amazing.
I think that we're pretty lucky to be honest, and I think it's down to our ability to adapt.
She has a group of friends that I just 'don't get' and I'm sure some of my friends baffle her too... it just means that we don't live in each other's pockets 24/7 and that we can go away with our 'outside' friends. It gives us more to talk about!
I read an article on being friends in your early 20s and late 20s....
Well we're in our mid 20s so we're sitting on the fence.
My bestie doesn't know that I'm writing this so it's going to be extra hilarious when she finds out!
Here is my opinion on my friendship with the Piglet to my Pooh Bear:
- We still have girly nights in, just us.
It is lonely when the husband is away working all over the country and sometimes abroad, but my girly nights in are pretty cool (and if growing up means stopping them, I am staying young forever.) - We still make plans to go out for the day, even if we are notorious for getting lost.
We once got lost coming back from shopping in Portsmouth and honestly believed we were about to become victims in a horror movie when we drove up a country lane just outside Winchester.
We also got lost in Croydon 1 MINUTE from the destination.... we ended up being half an hour late to a photoshoot my hubby arranged for us.
We have walked for 20 minutes in the wrong direction when we visited the Roman walls in Silchester. We WERE following a trail, but we somehow ended up on a different one... then in a flooded road... and it was January, it was cold, it was getting dark and we had rubbish phone service. I DREAD LONDON IN MAY. - We still share everything.
I mean everything. We share clothes We share the phish food ice cream tub (just so we both get fat at the same time) We share the cost of our midnight snacks. We share gossip and news about other people. We share each other's pain.
When she's down, I'm the first person to tell my girl to ignore the world, compose herself and tell me everything. Sometimes she needs time, other times she needs wine.
Either way Sharing is caring. - We still talk about bodily functions like they're funny.
Periods, Burping, Farting , Throwing up and Poo. We think they are hilarious. We make jokes, banter and take the piss almost every time. If we've witnessed the other making an idiot of themselves from one of these, they will not live it down. (My Hen party is a prime example.)
We've even made up our own code for taking a dump - just to make it sound prettier!
So if you ever hear one of us say we're off to make some wishes come true... - We still make every big important event like our lives depend on it. If a friend is still around in your late 20s, she is going to be there for life, She’s my rock, and she will be there for every important thing in my life. She was my nurse when my back was poorly, my company when my husband is away, my daily dose of funny, my disney guru and my chief bridesmaid at my wedding. (THIS IS AN UNBREAKABLE BOND.)
I love her to the moon & back again...
There is so much more I can say, but some of it just hasn't happened yet.
Cherish your friends & be the best person in return!
Peace out ✌
Hailie
